GREATER horseshoe BAT
The greater horseshoe bat is the largest of the two horseshoe bats found in the UK, in South Wales and South-west England. Over the last 100 years only 1% of the original population has survived in the UK.
Endangered status due to habitat loss, destruction of woods, intensive farming methods leading to loss of pasture and the use of chemical pesticides which has threatened their food supply. Bats roost in barns, churches and older houses in summer and hibernate in winter in caves, old mines and cellars.
Adopt a bat with The Bat Conservation Trust. www.bats.org.uk for as little as 3 pounds a month/ under US $10.00 a month, or donate to help the trust continue its bat conservation work.
Bat Conservation Trust has around 5,000 members, the trust works locally and nationally in the UK and across Europe and internationally with partnerships to help monitor bat populations through practical and educational bat conservation. The Bat Conservation Trust is the UK's only charity dedicated solely to bats and their habitats.
