KUROIWA'S GROUND GECKO

The Kuroiwa's Ground Gecko (also know as the Ryukyu Eyelid Gecko) only live on the Okinawa Islands and Tokunoshima of the Amami Islands in Japan.

They are different to most species of geckos as they live on the ground of sub-tropical forests and have no specialised toe pads. Endangered due to habitat clearing, especially during World War 2 and the trading of geckos on the black market.

Geckos are also threatened by introduced predators such as mongoose, weasel and feral cats.

There is no organisation helping this species.
