PYGMY THREE-TOED SLOTH
The Pygmy three-toed sloth from Isla Escudo de Veraguas, off the coast of Panama is found only in a small area of red mangrove forest on this tiny island that is a protected wildlife refuge. Recognised in 2001 as a distinct species from the larger mainland sloths. The island is uninhabited but the growing tourism industry is threatening the species, also the sloth is illegally hunted by local people

A ZSL expedition to the island in March of this year estimated that their is possibly less than 100 individual sloths left on Isla de Veraguas.
EDGE is hoping to raise five thousand pounds that will go towards implementing a community and school education and conservation program.
